Outside Classes

Here at Charrette some of the classes meet outside. During the dry months that works fairly well but come the rains and... The foundation has been set and as funds become available the walls and roof will go up for an additional 4 classrooms. Would you like to help? E-mail saintmarchaiti@gmail.com for more information

Charrette Child needing a sponsor!

Not far from St Marc a community called Charrette resides on a mountainside. The ride is brutal up a road that is more like a dry stream bed. Children here walk anywhere from minutes to hours to attend school. Help him continue his education by sponsoring him today. E-Mail saintmarchaiti@gmail.com for more information.

Fond-Baptist, Haiti, in the mountains

This child lives high in the mountains southeast of St Marc. About a 7 hour walk will bring you to the main north south highway (National 1). Rural living includes collecting water from a spring and growing crops to survive in this area. Help her attend school at Fond-Baptist by sponsoring her today. E-Mail for more information at saintmarchaiti@gmail.com .

This young lady is needing a sponsor. She currently is a student at Colmini in the desert a little north of St Marc. Would you consider helping? E-mail for more information.

Through the blessings of others this orphan and those at the orphanage receive an education. Please remember those in need, throughout the year.

Traditions

Pause today to ponder. A birth of unparalleled significance is remembered on this day. No ones life has been the same since.

School

These are some of the children that are blessed to be a part of a school. The school at Bois-Neuf currently has about 90 children. The ministry here also provides a meal each day helping to ensure these young ones have a meal a day. A meal a day is not a given in Haiti, each day is a struggle to provide yet another meal. Consider sponsoring a child, providing hope not only for the child but for his or her family as well.

Reaching out

Children in Haiti reach out with what they have. Joy, laughter and they, like all children have a curiosity, especially about the unknown. Seeing a new face in the crowd they are likely to "check you out" holding their hand out. Many times it's just a touch they seek, but don't we all? We also have the opportunity to reach out to these that are hungry and thirsty.

Footprints

We all leave our mark on this journey we call life. What will that look like? Will the mark be for an eternity or like these footprints in the sand be washed away?

Children

No matter where you go in Haiti the children will find you. Only about 1/2 of these children will ever learn to read or write if you go by current standards. EMEVI helps children in rural areas to have an opportunity to be educated. Sponsor a child providing hope for the future and a positive change for the next generation.

Hospitality

An orphan and young lady having trouble is school have been given a new opportunity to grow. Marcel's house is always open and these children are just two that have been with Marcel for some time. Each are doing quite well, the boy at the top of his class (although years behind in grade), the young lady is making steady progress with much improvement in school.

Wheelbarrow

If you have a wheelbarrow, you can work. It's a bit hard to figure out how much folks make here but is estimated that 80% of the population earn less that 1 US dollar a day for those that work. How do you feed yourself, let alone a family even if that was double or triple the estimate?

Sweet Potatoes

Planted on the side of the mountain are sweet potatoes. The hurricanes this past summer destroyed approximately 60 % of the crops. Hopefully these potatoes will make it to help feed a very hungry people.

Charcoal

Charcoal is very precious here. These two women and young fellow have carried these bags of charcoal for who knows how far to take it to market. And it's all carried on their heads!

Toys

Think it takes fancy toys to entertain children? A stick and tire rim was a favorite for Marcel and still today children have a blast with it. They chased/pushed this along the whole trail while we were visiting a church in the mountains.

Friendship

Marcel is highly respected here in Haiti. Everywhere you go, folks want to spend time with him. This past Saturday while traveling to La Session we were greeting by many children, who escorted us all the way to our destination. Watch for a picture of them coming soon.

Water

In this picture are two young children carrying water up a very steep grade along a mountain trail. Imagine filling a 5 gallon bucket with water, then add to it lifting it to your head and walking up a steep trail. Guess there will be water for tonight, tomorrow will be another trip to repeat the process.

Bridges

Storms from this summer caused much destruction. The bridge in the background is one of two on this days outing that was destroyed. A very temporary dirt crossing is shown in the foreground, just waiting for the next storm. Travel is poor at best in Haiti, loosing critical bridges just adds to the situation.

Colmini School

Children walk for miles to attend this school in the desert. November 2007 a cistern was built to collect rainwater. Groups continue to bless this ministry and the school/church has now been painted and benches were constructed this past November.

Clothes

Many of the clothes you see in Haiti make it there through mission groups. Box up some for delivery?

School

Children at Charrette may find themselves inside the building for school or outside next to it. A new foundation has been set to add classrooms next to the church/school, helping to accommodate the large number of children. Well over 200 children attend this school, one of 5 schools that are part of EMEVI and partially sponsored by Hope for Haiti.

Mountains

In the mountains you may see a community of people working on planting or harvesting. All in a line swinging picks breaking up the ground. The nearest power being miles away and motor vehicles are so few and far between that you really get noticed. Then you drop down the mountain where there are no roads nor is it possible to drive to the next valley. All the work is done by hand and any materials for the planting will be carried in from miles and miles away. Just a snapshot of life in and around the mountains.

Staple

Red Beans and Rice! Currently rice is going for $75.00 U.S. for a 100lb bag, which can help feed a family of 4, for approximately 1 month @ 2 meals a day, or 2 months @ 1 meal a day per person. Still need some beans... Can you help?

Dance Lesson

You may notice in the middle of this picture a couple of young ladies are up to something. Showing these school children from Colmini a few dance steps brought much laughter and smiles. Now how many children went home to try this out themselves? Teams take many talents and gifts on their trips to Haiti, leaving many "special moments" with those they encounter. Individuals in these teams take home a whole new perspective and appreciation of the blessings of God.

Legs

This young one probably had her first visit to a clinic on this day. Legs that are dust covered tell their own story. Mom is overjoyed for the opportunity to have her checked out. Chances are she will spend her life crawling or being carried by others.

Home

Just to our south in the country of Haiti, families still live very simply. Many homes in the mountains are of the style in this picture. As tropical storms move through we may hear news about the effects in the cities but little is heard about the remote areas. The crops that are also destroyed when the storms come leave little hope. Hunger is a way of life in many areas and compounded when the sources are wiped away.

Market Day

Market day may start at 4am or earlier, depending how far away you are. Starting well before the sun rises you raise your load upon your head and start out. Walking hours to arrive early enough to get the best spot to sell your crop. Almost none have a vehicle, few have burro's or a horse, most walk to market. Maybe today your load will sell early allowing you to arrive back home before the sun sets? Now it's time for a meal for the family...

Making a living

Pushing a 3 wheel wood cart with stuff for sale. Up and down the streets of St Marc most of which are pot holed at best. Making a living whatever way he can. Maybe this will be a good day, providing a meal to make it to tomorrow?

Take my picture

Living in the desert in Haiti provides little opportunity to see a picture of yourself. A small l-e-d image in a camera provides much excitement. Please pray for the children of Haiti.

Children

Hunger and thirst? These children hunger and thirst for not only food, but relationship. What a treasure our children are. Charrette School currently has approximately 230 students.

View

An up close and personal view reveals much, but we must pause long enough to really see what's right in front of us. Set time aside to pause, asking the Lord to reveal something we may have missed before.
