Wedding Transportation

How is this for romantic? Just got married and you mount your horse to go on your honeymoon. Very, very few have any transportation here in the mountains southeast of St Marc, so this is a treat. Even special blankets for this ride.

Mountain Wedding at Fond Baptist

Hours away from St Marc in the mountains is an area called Fond Baptist. Marcel on the right travels here about monthly to preach, check in on the school and even to perform weddings. This was a valentines day wedding, watch tomorrow for their special transportation.

Being shipped

Through a totally different connection a man was moved to provide this truck to Marcel. In this picture it is being made ready to carry goods in the wood box on the back for an orphanage. Next it goes to port to be shipped into St Marc where it will deliver the goods and then the truck goes on to Marcel and the ministry. We are humbled...

A new day with a new/used truck

Through a generous donation Marcel now has a new truck. The bed is being built as this is written, so watch for more pictures in the days ahead. Previously spending at least 12 hours a week just to keep a vehicle on the road we pray this will ease that load. Watch for more good news as the Lord is opening doors to provide for this ministry in ways we could not have imagined. Praise be to God!

Truck Dr Marcel?

Few have vehicles and Marcel's truck is a blessing to many. Maybe a bit hard to see in this picture but Marcel has his hand down in the engine compartment fixing something... again. We praise God for His provision, for even as this is being written Marcel is able through the generosity of a church, to look for a used vehicle to replace this worn out truck.

Hand Tools

Hand tools are the norm in Haiti. Power is available in some areas and you might even have it for a few hours a day. To rely on power though, well it's probably not going to be there when you need it. Here at Bois Neuf church/school power is connected but rarely on. This is the only church/school that is part of EMEVI that even has power as an option.

Sifting Sand

Yesterday we looked at painting and today it's sifting sand to make it ready for mixing with concrete. Now where do you suppose they get sand for concrete in Haiti? You can find it along the road near a river just to the north of Colmini where this picture was taken. Men dive down into the river with a 5 gallon bucket and get the sand off the bottom, one bucket at a time. Then it's brought to a spot where it can be shoveled into a vehicle. How is that for making a living? Any takers?

Many hands...

How long does it take to paint a building with just brushes and rollers? This crew made short order of painting Bois Neuf. Working side by side with our brothers and sisters in Haiti is a joy, consider joining a team, who knows you might even come out of it without any paint on you... hummm

Shelter

The church building at La Session provides shelter during the storms. Even this building was damaged this past Hurricane season. Through donations it has been partially restored. La Session is like a sister church/school to Charrette. It's not a great distance away from Charrette but to get there is more than a leisurely hike. School children nearby are now able to attend here so they do not have to make that trek daily to Charrette.

Corn

While in the rural areas of Haiti, you will many times see corn hung in the few trees that are left. It helps keep the rats from devouring it. Now, how they get it up there, guess I'll see that on another day.

Pastor Tony's house

How is this for a parsonage? High in the mountains of Haiti without power or water Pastor Tony ministers to the farmers and others that live here. Not just a few scattered here and there but to many that call this area home. Fond Baptist is part of EMEVI and Tony is one of the many pastor's that seek direction through Marcel.

Housing continued

No matter where you go it's the same. What do you do when a storm comes and this roof is made of old material that will act like a sponge? Is this home? Yes, for someone it is. It tugs at my heart.

Housing

So many in Haiti live in houses we would push over and have removed, and they are glad to have some type of shelter. This is just one we have seen in our travels over the years, I am challenged, would I live here?

A living fence

A living fence has been grown around the Colmini school and here in this picture a gate was being built. This team helped make this project a realty not only by lending a hand but bringing the funds for the materials. Consider how you could help with the next project coming up in March. 4 Classrooms will be added at Charrette another school/church that Hope for Haiti lends a hand with.

Sealing it up

This cistern was built right next to the school/church building at Colmini so that rain water could be collected off the roof. Clean drinking water is now available to meet the needs of the school children and teachers, plus many more.

Cistern being built

In Colmini water is precious and was only available by walking about 3 miles to the north. This cistern was built with volunteer hands through a team that came from Colorado. Watch in the days ahead for more pictures of the building process. Join us for a trip?

Colmini window project

As seen from the outside the windows are being built in place. The north side of the building has block windows that help to defend against the storms by slanting down keeping the rain out. Continued tomorrow...

Windows

The school at Colmini just a few years ago was in need of windows. Not quite what you might imagine for windows but very appropriate for Haiti. Watch in the days ahead for the project as the windows are installed.

Drawing near

These children love the opportunity to draw close to visitors. It seems that anywhere you go, children gather around to check you out. Careful or they will capture your heart.
